A watercolor lesson inspired by A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni.

The students learned about chameleons and their natural environment as well as cool & warm colors. They learned how to use watercolor paint, oil pastels, and tempera paint sticks.

1.) Reading Circle
Students talked about color mixing after reading the books A Color of His Own, and Mouse Paint.
2.) Drawing & Painting
Students learned how to layer and mix colors using oil pastels in their backgrounds and watercolor for the chameleons. & lizards

Watercolor Chickens
Grade Level: Pre-K
Media: Watercolor, Markers, Gluing
Pre-K Artists read the book Blue Chicken by Deborah Freedman and learned about warm & cool colors, They used markers for their backgrounds and watercolor paints for their paper chickens and chicks.
Drawing & Painting
Students participated in a discussion about the book, Blue Chicken, and then began making their own masterpieces.Â

Impressionist Landscapes
Grade Level: 5th
Media:Â Oil Pastel
Student Artists created their own impressionist masterpieces. Before beginning, they learned about historical ceramic artists and the meaning of mark making.Â
1.) Intro & Ideation
Students learned about the Impressionist art movement and what Impressionism means.
They researched images of places they would like to travel to using chromebooks and put them in a shared google drive.

2.) Exploring Material
Students learn the proper way to use and clean oil pastels.
They receive red, blue, & yellow oil pastels to practice color mixing and loose mark making.
3.) Drawing
Students learn how to use a ruler to make an X-grid to assist with drawing accurate proportions.
Using their printed reference image, students use oil pastels to make an impressionist drawing.
